Yoga Nidra

What is Yoga Nidra

Yoga nidra is psychic sleep1, a state between sleep and wakefulness. It is a guided meditation that induces physical, mental and emotional relaxation by turning inward, and away from external experiences.

In yoga nidra the mind is able to relax, bringing deeper layers of the psyche into conscious experience. In the practice, don’t cling to awareness or awakeness but let the mind flow. Concentration and focus are not helpful here as they will obstruct the flow of your experience. Simply listen to the guide and view arising experiences with awareness and detachment.

Each recording contains a guided, meditative practice that leads you on a journey of expanded consciousness. The long episodes also contain instructions on forming a Sankalpa, a personal resolve.

I would like to thank Sunil Sharma and Upendra Prasad at Tattvaa Yogashala in Rishikesh for their excellent guidance and instruction.

To Begin

To begin, please lie down on your back, either on a yoga mat or bed. Feet a little apart, hands beside your body. Cover yourself with a light blanket and close your eyes. Ideally the room is dark and quiet and undisturbed.
